PitchBook Identifies Top Universities for Entrepreneurs

PitchBook is a financial data and software company with offices in London, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle. It publishes lists of universities whose alumni have started venture capital-backed companies.

The rankings can be filtered by size and region, and for public or private institutions.

The top universities are concentrated in North America, the UK, and Israel. The best university, ranked by number of founders, is Stanford for undergraduate alumni, graduate alumni, and female undergraduate alumni, and Harvard for female graduate alumni.

There are four Australian universities, led by the University of Sydney in the undergraduate alumni category. Among the European universities in this group there are five British, one Irish and one Danish university. Israeli universities, including Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, also do well, and the rest of Asia is represented by two Chinese, two Indian, one Singaporean, and one South Korean university.

This ranking indicates that the best places for producing entrepreneurs are large private North American schools.
