The French consulting firm, Emerging, has just announced a collection of rankings, published in Times Higher Education, that assess the digital competence of global universities.
The rankings are based on a survey of 3,597 experts comprising equal numbers of IT professionals, digital professionals, and international startup founders. There are six tables: Computer Science, Data Science/AI Studies, Digital Entrepreneurship, Online Degrees, Digital Companies Management Studies, and Digital Transformation Programmes.
These are combined to produce an overall ranking. The top five for 2023 are:
- Harvard University
- University of Oxford
- Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT)
- University of Cambridge
- Yale University.
The top universities in each category are:
Digital Entrepreneurship; University of Tokyo
Digital Companies Management Studies; Technical University of Munich
Computer Science Studies; Technical University of Berlin
Data Science/ AI Studies; University of Oxford
Online Studies; University of Oxford
The best performing country was the United States and universities from the UK, France, Germany, and India also did well. It is noticeable that Chinese universities are significantly underrepresented, with only four in the overall rankings.
