Nature Index has published a short report on the leading institutions in the life science in Continental Europe. It includes a list of the top five according to research publications between December 2018 and November 2019.
The Nature Index is based on publications in a select group of 82 high impact journals. The Index publishes rankings based on Count, the total number of publications, and Share, or fractional counting, based on the proportion of an institutions affiliated authors compared with the total number of authors.
It is noticeable that research institutions appear to be pulling ahead of universities in these and other research rankings.
The leading European institution is the Max Planck Society, Germany, with a share of 273.38. In second place is the French National Centre for Scientific research with a share of 206.14. The next three places go to the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and the University of Zurich.
