The first edition of the Arab Ranking of Universities has been published. This ranking is produced by the Arab Ranking of Universities Council, which is sponsored by the General Secretariat of the Arab League, the Arab League of Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation, and the Association of Arab Universities.
The largest number of universities is from Egypt which is represented by 28 institutions. There are 19 from Iraq, 18 from Jordan, and 10 from Yemen. Egypt also has five universities in the top ten of the overall ranking. Altogether, 115 universities have been ranked. Palestine. Libya, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait and Somalia are also represented.
There are four clusters of indicators, each of which has 9 metrics:
- Teaching and learning
- Scientific research
- Creativity and innovation
- International and local cooperation and community service.
The top ten universities are:
- King Saud University, Saudi Arabia
- Cairo University, Egypt
3 United Arab Emirates University
- Ain Shams University, Egypt
- Mansoura University, Egypt
- University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
- King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia
- University of Sfax, Tunisia
- University of Alexandria, Egypt
- University of Zagazig Egypt.
