MeauresHE is a new consulting firm established by two senior data experts who used to work for Times Higher Education (THE). They have already published rankings of journals and talented researchers and have now produced a ranking of national higher education systems.
There are seven pillars comprising 26 metrics:
- Research (35% weight); Research Gravitas, Research Quality, Research Excellence, Authors in Talent 100
- Global Standing (20%); peak systemic capability and global reputation
- Openness (10%); research accessibility and translation of knowledge to innovation
- Academic Integrity (10%); penalties for metric manipulation
- Demographics and Investment (10%); social priorities related to population size
- International Integration (8%); ability to attract global talent and promote international knowledge creation
- Sustainability (7%); contribution to UN Sustainability Development Goals.
The top country in the overall ranking is the United Kingdom, followed by the Netherlands, the USA, Sweden, and Canada. The top Asian system is Hong Kong in 9th place, and the best performing African country is South Africa.
