AppliedHE of Singapore have announced their rankings of private and public universities in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). The rankings include reporting and non-reporting institutions.
The latter do not submit data and are evaluated by publicly available information.
The criteria for private and public universities are:
- Teaching and Learning (40% weighting); student surveys and faculty student ratio
- Employability (private 20%, public 10%); employment and further study data
- Research (private 10%, public 15%); (private Google Scholar citations, public 5% for Google Scholar citations and 5% for Webometrics Excellence)
- Community Engagement (10%); Google News and student surveys
- Internationalization (10%) percentage of international faculty and students
- Institutional Reputation (10%) AppliedHE peer review survey.
In the private university rankings Malaysia does very well with six institutions in the top ten and four in the top five. There is more diversity in the public university ranking which is led by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, followed by the National University of Singapore and IPB University, Indonesia.

- Teaching and Learning; IPB University, Indonesia
- Research; Singapore University of Technology and Design
- Internationalization; Universiti Brunei Darussalam
- Community Engagement; IPB University
- Institutional Reputation, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia.
