The results of the European Ranking of Engineering Programmes (Engirank) were announced in Brussels on 01 December and also took center stage at the meeting of the General Assembly of IREG on 09 December, prior to the IREG conference on University Rankings and the Challenges of Sustainability in Abu Dhabi.
Among the noteworthy features of the ranking was the inclusion of a 10% weighting for compliance with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 of Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
The ranking has five groups of indicators:
- Research; 4 indicators (28% weighting)
- Innovation; 4 indicators (25% weighting)
- SDG 9 (10% weighting)
- Internationalisation; 3 indicators (16% weighting)
- Multidisciplinary; linking institutional and subject rankings (21%).
The top 6 universities in the overall rankings are:
1. Technical University of Denmark
2. Delft University of Technology, Netherlands
3. KU Leuven, Belgium
4= KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
4= Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland
4= Technical University of Munich, Germany.
The top five universities for SDG 9 are:
1. Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy
2. RWTH Aachen University, Germany
3. Technical University of Munich, Germany
4. Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy
5. Delft University of Technology, Netherlands.
