Methodology
For the sixteenth year in a row, the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education - Rating (IQAA-Ranking) presented the results of the National Ranking of Leading Universities of Kazakhstan - 2024. The institutional ranking included 51 universities in six categories: multidisciplinary, technical, humanitarian and economic, pedagogical, medical and art universities:

 

INDICATOR 1 – CONTINGENT OF STUDENTS – 80 POINTS 

  • The proportion of students studying by support of state educational scholarships to the total number of full-time students (15 points)
  • The proportion of postgraduate students to the total number of full-time students (15 points)
  • The proportion of out-of-town students in full-time form to the total number of full-time students (15 points)
  • Provision of out-of-town students with an student accommodation (15 points)
  • Scale index of the university (20 points) 

 

INDICATOR 2 – THE RESULTS OF STUDENTS’ TRAINING AND THE AMOUNT OF STUDY PROGRAMMES IMPLEMENTED IN THE UNIVERSITY – 80 POINTS

  • Victories of students at international competitions, conferences, Olympiads in Kazakhstan and CIS countries (10 points), in far abroad countries (20 points), sports and creative achievements in CIS and far abroad countries (5 points) in the last three academic years (in total 35 points)
  • The ratio of the number of undergraduate students to the number of undergraduate programs (4 points)
  • The ratio of the number of students enrolled in a master’s program to the number of master’s programs (15 points)
  • The ratio of the number of students enrolled in the PhD program to the number of PhD programs (6 points)
  • The share of new and innovative programs in the total number of educational programs implemented at the university (10 points)
  • The share of educational programs in English in the total number of educational programs implemented at the university (10 points) 

 

INDICATOR 3 – ACADEMIC STAFF AND RESEARCHERS – 110 POINTS 

  • Proportion of Doctors of Sciences, PhDs to the amount of academic staff (30 points)
  • Proportion of academic staff who received the “Best Teacher of the University” grant over the last 3 years (20 points)
  • Proportion of Doctors of Sciences, PhDs to the number of academic staff working part-time, from various sectors of the economy (15 points)
  • Proportion of domestic academic staff graduated from universities abroad (10 points)
  • The number of students per one full-time teaching staff (20 points)
  • Proportion of Doctors of Sciences, PhDs to the number of staff researchers (10 points) 
  • Proportion of Doctors of Sciences, PhDs to the number of staff researchers working part-time (5 points) 

 

INDICATOR 4 – RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (R&D), INNOVATIVE WORK – 170 POINTS 

  • The volume of research funding per one full-time academic staff (20 points)
  • Scientific publications in the Science Index (РИНЦ) per one full-time teacher over the last three calendar years: (Publ / N academic staff) (10 points)
  • Citations per article in the Science Index (10 points).
  • Number of publications per Academic Staff in the Web of Science (20 points)
  • Number of citations per article in the Web of Science (20 points)
  • Number of publications per Academic Staff in Scopus (20 points)
  • Number of citations per article in Scopus (20 points)
  • Number of dissertational councils for the preparation of PhD (10 points)
  • Number of patents over the last 3 calendar years per one full-time academic staff (10 points)
  • Number of patents renewed over the last 3 calendar years per one full-time academic staff (20 points)
  • Number of intellectual property certificates over the last 3 calendar years per one full-time academic staff (10 points) 

 

INDICATOR 5 – INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION – 90 POINTS 

  • Number of joint educational programs of double diploma with foreign universities or certificates (20 points)
  • Proportion of international exchanges, business trips per academic staff over the last three academic years (20 points)
  • Proportion of international exchanges per one full-time student over the last three academic years (20 points) 
  • Proportion of foreign students to the number of full-time students (10 points)
  • Proportion of foreign academic staff (at least 2 credits) over the last three years (20 points) 

 

INDICATOR 6 – INFORMATION SUPPORT – 110 POINTS 

  • Assessment of the official website (50 points)
  • Number of official social media accounts with regular posts (10 points)
  • Distance educational technologies (50 points) 

 

INDICATOR 7 – EMPLOYMENT AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF GRADUATES – 160 POINTS 

  • Proportion of graduates employed in the first year after graduation (100 points)
  • The ratio of the number of graduates to the number of undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs. The maximum score will be awarded to the institution with the highest ratio. (20 points)
  • The number of graduates awarded state or departmental awards or prizes over the past 3 calendar years, within 10 years after graduation (20 points)
  • Proportion of graduates who received the “Bolashak” scholarship, international grants or international scholarships over the last three years, to the contingent of full-time graduates (20 points)
