Poets and Quants Business School Rankings: No Change at the Top

The business education site, Poets and Quants, recently published the latest edition of its ranking of US MBA programmes.  An article by John Byrne notes that this came at the end of a turbulent year for business school rankings.  The Economist ranking was published late and had been boycotted by several major schools as had the Financial Times ranking.  Meanwhile, the Bloomberg Businessweek rankings had been assailed by Anjani Jain of the Yale University School of Management for a flawed methodology.

This is a composite ranking that combines the results of several different rankings.  The methodology had to be revised this year to take account of the controversies noted above.  The Businessweek and Economist rankings were not included and the weighting given to the Financial Times was reduced.

After all this, the big surprise of this year’s ranking is that there were no big surprises.  The top ten remain the same although there are some new arrivals in the top one hundred including St. Louis University’s Chaifetz School of Business and the University of San Francisco’s School of Management.

The top ten schools in the US are:

  1. Stanford Graduate School of Business
  2. Chicago (Booth)
  3. Pennsylvania (Wharton)
  4. Northwestern (Kellogg)
  5. Harvard
  6. MIT (Sloan)
  7. Columbia
  8. Dartmouth (Tuck)
  9. Berkeley (Haas)
  10. Yale School of Management.
