Times Higher Education (THE) has published the latest edition of their Latin American rankings. These are based on the methodology of the THE World University Rankings but with significant modifications.
The weighting for the citations (research impact) indicator has been cut from 30% to 20% and redistributed to Teaching: the Learning Environment (now 36%) and Research: Volume, Income and Reputation (now 34%). International Outlook and Industry Income account for a further 7.5% and 2.5% respectively.
First place is held, as in the two previous editions, by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. However, Brazil is by far the best performing country with a total of 67 universities in the overall rankings and 13 out of the top 20 places.
Overall, the top five universities are:
- Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
- University of Sāo Paulo, Brazil
- University of Campinas, Brazil
- Monterrey Institute of Technology, Mexico
- Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The top university in each of the indicator groups are:
Teaching; University of Campinas
Research; University of Campinas
Citations; Universidad Autónoma de Chile
International Outlook; UESS Espiritu Santo University, Ecuador
Industry Income; Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
