The 2022 edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings has been published. There has been a lot of comment about the improvement in the ranks of Oxford and Cambridge and some other British universities.
The rankings have officially been generally fairly stable since 2005 with the following indicators:
- Academic survey (40%)
- Employer survey (10%)
- Faculty student ratio (20%)
- Citations per faculty (20%)
- International students (5%)
- International faculty (5%).
The latest rankings show a significant increase in the scores of leading British universities, apparently as a result of a substantial increase in citations per faculty. Oxford has risen from 5th To 2nd place, Cambridge from 6th to 3rd =, University College London from 10th to 8th, and Edinburgh from 20th to 16th.
This year’s overall top ten are:

3= University of Cambridge, UK
5. Harvard University, USA
6. California Institute of Technology, USA
7. Imperial College London, UK
8= ETH Zurich, Switzerland
8= University College London, UK
10. University of Chicago, USA.
