US Schools Lead Marketing Research Rankings

The American Marketing Association (AMA) has published the latest edition of its ranking of researchers and institutions. It publishes top 50 lists of authors and affiliations in the field of market compiled annually  by AMA Doctoral Students SIG (DocSIG). The four lists are author productivity in premier journals and premier AMA journals, and university productivity in premier journals and premier AMA journals. The rankings are led by American business schools. Both institutional lists are topped by the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School) as well as author productivity in premier journals and first place in the author premier AMA journal lists goes to Georgia State University (J Mack Robinson School of Business).

Other countries included in the institution lists are the Netherlands, Canada, the UK and Australia. Asia is sparsely represented: in the premier marketing journals list Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is 23rd and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (HKUST) 46th and in the premier AMA journals list HKUST is 43rd, and the Indian School of Business and INSEAD, which has a campus in Singapore, are joint 45th.

The top five universities for publications in premier marketing journals are:

  1. University of Pennsylvania
  2. Columbia University
  3. Northwestern University
  4. Duke University
  5. University of Chicago.

The top five universities for publications in premier AMA journals are:

  1. University of Pennsylvania
  2. Tilburg University
  3. University of Maryland at College Park
  4. Pennsylvania State University at University Park
  5. University of Texas at Austin.
