More than 26 universities from 16 countries top officials gathered in Jakarta Indonesia, on April 21st 2016 to present their achievements in providing World Class University Infrastructure and in fostering sustainable culture. Universitas Indonesia (UI), as the initiator of the first university ranking in the world hosted this second International Workshop on UI GreenMetric entitled ‎“Fostering Sustainable Culture in Global Universities” (http://iwgm.ui.ac.id). University of Indonesia is an IREG Member since 2012.

Rectors/Vice Rectors from Canada, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Iran, Spain, Malaysia, Austria, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Jordan, Hungary, Turkey, and Mexico. From the year 2010, UI has became the information exchange hub related to the university development as a green campus, based on the UI GreenMetric Indicators. This has attracted attention from top leaders from many universities in the world. This can be seen from the improvement of the participating universities which became  407 from 65 countries in the year 2015. UI GreenMetric ranking tools consists of six indicators, i.e setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education (http://greenmetric.ui.ac.id).

The goal of UI GreenMetric is line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, and the end of UNESCO program on UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).  Riri Fitri Sari, the UI GreenMetric Chairperson stated that the active participations of top officials from global universities from Brazil to Japan has shown the spirit of fraternity and showing the interest of building a collaborative effort in combating climate change and preparing the future world leaders for a sustainable planet earth in a conducive university infrastructure and services.

By the end of the conference, 5 universities from Turkey, Indonesia, Ireland, Iran and Malaysia have stated their interest in hosting this beneficial workshops in their institutions. Some regional network hub of UI GreenMetric will be initiated to encourage more collaborations and to be the stage for show cases of innovative programs in participating universities.

The purpose of the IREG Guidelines for Stakeholders of Academic Rankings is to provide recommendations for appropriate interpretations, uses and applications of rankings by potential interested parties, including students and parents, institutions of higher education, policymakers, quality assurance and funding organizations, employers and the media. Specific recommendations have been formulated for each group of stakeholders.

The worldwide ranking UI GreenMetric Workshop in Bologna

This Bologna workshop is aimed to highlight the commitment of Italian universities towards a sustainable 360° approach. UI GM Chairperson, Riri Fitri Sari, will showcase the ranking’s structure and indicators in details. Italian participants are warmly invited to ask questions and raise issues concerning the specificity of the Italian universities to fit into the UI GreenMetric ranking. The Alma Mater Studiorum assumes the role of National Network Hub for UI GM in the framework of this event that will also host experts from RUS (Rete delle Università per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile).

Ranking conference in Warsaw

Polish universities feel, they deserve a better place in international rankings. To discuss what can and should be done to improve the quality of research, rectors of best universities in the country gathered 1-2 December in Warsaw at the conference “Polish Universities in International Perspective – Rankings and Strategic Management of University” organized by Perspektywy Education Foundation jointly with the Conference of Rectors (CRASP) and Polish Accreditation Commission (PAC).
