The Scimago Institutions Rankings (Spain) are published by the Scimago Lab and use data provided by Scopus to measure and compare the research, innovation and Societal Impact of global universities and research centres. The methodology is based on the following metrics:
- Research (50%) including 11 indicators relating to citations, publications and international collaboration
- Innovation (30%) including three indications based on patents
- Societal Impact (20%) including altmetrics, back links and web size.
The year’s rankings provide further evidence of the research strengths of Asian institutions including those in the non-university sectors.
The current leader overall, as well as for Research and Innovation, is the Chinese Academy of Sciences, followed by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in France, the Chinese Ministry of Education, Harvard University and Harvard Medical School.
In specific sectors the top institutions are:
Government; Chinese Academy of Sciences
Health; National Institutes of Health, USA
Higher Education; Harvard University
Private; Google Inc., USA
Others; Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research, USA.
