An article in WONK HE by Paul Greatrix presents an unusual ranking of places and subjects in the UK that are most likely to use the services of “essay mills”, companies that supply essays to university students who are unable or unwilling to write their own.

The data is from Essay Writing Services UK and covered by an article in The Tab by Dan Burns.

The subjects that are most likely to request essays are:

  1.  Management
  2. Law
  3. Business
  4. Nursing
  5. Psychology
  6. Health and Social Care
  7. Economics
  8. History
  9. English
  10. Social Work.

It is interesting that the subjects that are not in the top twenty of customers include Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Philosophy.

There is also a list of places that are most likely to pay for essay writing services. Ten per cent of requests come from Birmingham, nine per cent from Manchester and Middlesex, seven per cent from Essex, and six per cent from Brighton, Reading and Coventry. Oxford, Cambridge and London are not in the top twenty in this list.

Greatrix concludes with a renewed call for the banning of essay mills.
