The SCImago Journal and Country Rank is produced by the SCImago Lab, which is a research group attached to Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), University of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid) and Alcalá de Henares.
It provides data about international scientific journals derived from the Scopus database. Indicators include impact influence measured by the average number of weighted citations in a selected year, H index, total documents per year and over three years, total references, total citations over three years, citable documents over three years, citations per document over two years, and references over a year.
The journals with the greatest impact are largely in the fields of medicine, genetics and economics and are mainly published in Britain and the United States.
The top five journals for impact influence are:
- CA - A Cancer Journal for Clinicians
- Nature Reviews Genetics
- MMWR. Recommendations and reports: Morbidity and mortality weekly report
- National vital statistics reports : from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics, National Vital Statistics System
- Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology.
There are also rankings of countries. The top five countries for number of documents are:
The number of citations shows a somewhat different picture with China falling to fourth place behind the UK and Germany.
