The Executive Committee, elected for the term 2018-2022, met in Lisbon on 27 July. Chaired by President Luiz Claudio Costa. The executive body of IREG Observatory outlined activities the organizations will undertake in the coming years.

In the face of growing importance of university rankings, the position of IREG Observatory, the only independent international expert organization in the ranking field, becomes ever more important in maintaining a balance in the ranking ecosystem. Expectations vis-à-vis IREG Observatory are high; to meet them, IREG Observatory will need to play several roles: Be an international platform for contacts and debate for players on the ranking market; be a source of in-depth expert knowledge; a respected repository of information on rankings, and act in the interest of its member organizations.

The priorities of IREG Observatory in 2018 and 2019 will include:

  • IREG 2019 Annual Conference in Bologna (May 8-10, 2019) organized with the University of Bologna,
  • IREG-FEFU Asia-Pacific University Ranking Forum in Vladivostok (September 5-7, 2019) organized with the Far East Federal University;
  • Series of reports on the key ranking issues;
  • Multiyear IREG Data Initiative to analyze and catalogue databases and semantic definition in the area of higher education;
  • update of the IREG Inventory of National Rankings
  • New measures aimed to increase the global visibility of IREG Observatory

The Committee also approved a new approach to the IREG Ranking Audit. The new formula will be run under the name of “IREG Seal of Approval”.
