As reported earlier (on 4 November 2016), at the initiative of the Russian Union of Rectors, the Russian Association of Rating Makers (ARM) under the leadership of Dmitry Grishankov, have been working on a new international university ranking called Moscow International "The Three University Missions" Ranking

A group of international experts on higher education and academic rankings representing all major international regions met in Moscow 8-9 June 2017 for a Seminar. The experts were invited to present and discuss with their Russian hosts their opinions on the methodology of the proposed ranking. The main element differentiating this ranking from the already existing rankings is its very broad use of indicators pertaining to the so called third mission of the university.

The seminar took place at the Lomonosov Moscow State University. Prof. Victor Sadovnichiy, Rector of Lomonosov University, President of the Russian Union of Rectors actively participated in the opening and the wrap-up sessions. Members of the international expert group came from Brazil, Canada, China, India, Iran, Italy, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States.

In general, the international experts were positive towards the proposed methodology but at the same time they have pointed out problems that may occur in securing reliable data, comparable in the international context. Director Grishankov announced that later this year a pilot version of the ranking will be presented for open discussion.
