This year's annual university ranking "Top 200 Ukraine" was established eleventh time in a row. It has become a recognized system of independent evaluation of universities for the academic community, employers and Ukrainian society. During the last decade "Top 200 Ukraine" stimulated healthy competition among national universities in accordance with the main criteria of evaluation of their performance.

The top ten includes recognized leaders of Ukrainian education. Their performance is annually improving in the means of academic activities, strengthening connections with the labor market, active participation in international events, and appreciated by various international rating systems.

The winner of 2017 "Top 200 Ukraine" became Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The gap between this and other universities has increased this year compared to 2016. International supervisory board rating of "Top 200 Ukraine" appraised that Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has created and developed a strong innovating ecosystem "Sikorsky Challenge", brought to market the most start-ups among all other universities in Ukraine, sold the biggest number of licenses for inventions and implemented the most projects in national security of Ukraine.

Taras Shevchenko Kiev National University and Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University the second and third places respectively. They have the most government funding of research activities among other universities of Ukraine and a high quoting index in Scopus and Web of Science.

IREG Initiatives

With the fast development of science and technology, as well as the internationalization of scientific activities, international academic awards have been more and more popular and influential. Numerous international academic awards have been established to provide individuals with incentives and motivation for new academic work and to reward past excellent academic accomplishments.


The purpose of the IREG Ranking Audit, conducted by independent experts, is to verify and attest that ranking under review is done professionally, with a transparent methodology, observes good practices and responds to a need for relevant information of various stakeholders, in particular students, higher education institutions, employers and policy makers.


National and international academic rankings play ever increasing role as a barometer of quality of higher education institutions. The purpose of "IREG Inventory of National Rankings" is to collect and make available on the IREG Observatory website information on the current state and scope of this important group of rankings.


The purpose of the IREG Guidelines for Stakeholders of Academic Rankings is to provide recommendations for appropriate interpretations, uses and applications of rankings by potential interested parties, including students and parents, institutions of higher education, policymakers, quality assurance and funding organizations, employers and the media. Specific recommendations have been formulated for each group of stakeholders.
