The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy has published its Best Chinese Universities Ranking, which covers a total of 500 institutions. The objective of the ranking is “to provide students, parents and other stakeholders with reliable and comparable information about Chinese universities.”The criteria for inclusion are a minimum undergraduate enrollment of 100 and publication of 100 papers in journals indexed by Scopus.

The rank order is based on four dimensions:

  • Teaching and Learning, including scores on the National College Entrance Exam (30% weighting) and graduate employment (15%)
  • Research, including the number of papers in journals indexed in Scopus (10%), field weighted citation impact (10%), papers in the top 1% most cited (10%) and top cited researchers in China (10%)
  • Social Service, including research income from industry (5%) and income from technology transfer (5%)
  • Internationalization, compromising international students as a percentage of total students.

The top ten universities are:

  1. Tsinghua University
  2. Peking University
  3. Zhejiang University
  4. Shanghai Jiao Tong University
  5. Fudan University
  6. University of Science and Technology of China
  7. Nanjing University
  8. Huazhong University of Science and Technology
  9. Sun Yat-Sen University
  10. Harbin Institute of Technology.

The purpose of the IREG Guidelines for Stakeholders of Academic Rankings is to provide recommendations for appropriate interpretations, uses and applications of rankings by potential interested parties, including students and parents, institutions of higher education, policymakers, quality assurance and funding organizations, employers and the media. Specific recommendations have been formulated for each group of stakeholders.

Ranking conference in Warsaw

Polish universities feel, they deserve a better place in international rankings. To discuss what can and should be done to improve the quality of research, rectors of best universities in the country gathered 1-2 December in Warsaw at the conference “Polish Universities in International Perspective – Rankings and Strategic Management of University” organized by Perspektywy Education Foundation jointly with the Conference of Rectors (CRASP) and Polish Accreditation Commission (PAC).

University of Indonesia Sustainability Ranking

(Indonesia, 27th of April 2016) More than 26 universities from 16 countries top officials gathered in Jakarta Indonesia, on April 21st 2016 to present their achievements in providing World Class University Infrastructure and in fostering sustainable culture. Universitas Indonesia (UI), as the initiator of the first university ranking in the world hosted this second International Workshop on UI GreenMetric entitled ‎“Fostering Sustainable Culture in Global Universities” (http://iwgm.ui.ac.id). University of Indonesia is an IREG Member since 2012.
