The Center for World University Rankings was based in Jeddah but has now moved to the United Arab Emirates. The Center publishes world university rankings, country rankings and subject rankings. These rankings avoid surveys and information submitted by institutions. Instead they assess Quality of Education, Alumni Employment, Quality of Faculty, and Research Performance through publicly accessible databases. The results are fairly similar to conventional research-based rankings with the upper levels dominated by British and American universities.

It is noticeable that Japanese and Israeli universities perform very well here. The University of Tokyo is 13th overall and 6th for alumni employment. The Weizmann Institute of Science is 58th and 17th for quality of education.

The top five this year are:

  1. Harvard University
  2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  3. Stanford University
  4. University of Cambridge
  5. University of Oxford
  6. Columbia University
  7. Princeton University
  8. University of California Berkeley
  9. University of Pennsylvania
  10. University of Chicago.

The Quality of Education (weighting 25%) is measured by international awards won by alumni, Alumni Employment (25%) by the number of alumni holding CEO posts, Quality of Faculty (10%) by international awards won by faculty, Research Performance (40%) by the number of research papers, research papers in top tier journals, research papers in influential journals,  and highly cited papers.

Building university visibility - Ranking conference in Poland

„Perspektywy” Education Foundation in close cooperation with the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) and the Polish Accreditation Commission organized a conference “Polish Universities in International Perspective - Rankings and Strategic Management of a University”. The third conference under the same title was held in Warsaw on 3rd and 4th December 2018.

Moscow Third University Mission Conference

"The Third University Mission" international conference, dedicated to the cooperation between universities and society  attended by over 260 delegates from 23 countries was held in Moscow November 30 and December 1. The conference was timed to the release of the new issue of Moscow International University Ranking "The Three University Missions". The conference was chaired by Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of the Lomonosov University and Waldemar Siwinski, Vice President of IREG Observatory on Academic Rankings and Excellence. "The Moscow Ranking opens a new generation of academic rankings", said Luiz Claudio Costa, President of IREG Observatory, honorary guest of the Conference.  "Almost all of the existing rankings are based mainly on indicators of research and institutional reputation. It is time for a new generation of rankings that try to look more closely to the link between university and society."
