The latest edition of Reuters’ Asia Pacific Most Innovative Universities is dominated by South Korea. First on this year’s list of 75 universities is Seoul National University, followed by the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH).
The ranking attempts to measure the universities’ contribution to scientific and technological development and capacity for innovation. There are ten metrics: Patent Volume, Patent Success, Global Patents, Patent Citations, Patent Citation Impact, Percent of Patents Cited, Patent to Article Citation Impact, Industry Article Citation Impact, Percent of Industry Collaborative Articles, and Total Web of Science Core collection Papers.
Of the 75 top universities 25 are located in Mainland China, 19 each in Japan and South Korea, five in Australia, three in Hong Kong, two in Singapore and one each in New Zealand and India. There are none from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia or Central Asia.
The top ten universities are:

- University of Tokyo, Japan
- Osaka University, Japan
- Kyoto University, Japan
- National University of Singapore
